Step-by-step Christmas puppets craft instructions
Step 1: Cut out all the pyramid shapes in your egg carton box. We used a craft knife, so please be very careful and help your child with this step.
Step 2: We will start with painting all the egg carton pyramids. Which character would you like to create? See what colors you need for each puppet in the picture above. We used acrylic paint for the perfect paint coverage, but washable paint also works if your kids are still small.
For the penguin, you’ll need black and white paint. For Santa, you need any skin color you have available (we mixed some white, red, and brown) and red paint. For the deer, you need brown paint. For the angel, we used blue mixed with any skin color you have. When you’re done painting, let your paint dry!
Step 3: We will start with the penguin (see picture above, step 1). Take orange and black colored paper and cut out two black wings, two orange feet, and a beak. Also, glue a pair of tiny googly eyes on your penguin puppet.
Step 4: Our next puppet will be Santa (see picture above, step 2). For Santa, we used a little piece of white felt fabric around the hat and a little white pom-pom on top of his hat. Use white paint, paper, or cotton in if you don’t have felt fabric. You can swap the pom-pom for a bead or cotton. We added some cotton as a beard, a little dot for Santa’s nose, and two googly eyes!
Step 5: For Rudolph, the red nose reindeer (see picture above, step 3), we gather two small branches for the antlers and a red pom-pom for his nose. Finish the reindeer with two tiny googly eyes.
Step 6: Our Christmas angel puppet (see picture above, step 4). Cut out two blue (or any other color) wings from paper. We added some yellow yarn for the hair and a silver pipe cleaner for the halo. Again, Finish off with two tiny googly eyes.
