This is such a fun and easy Halloween craft activity. I used to do this activity when I was a kid, and I loved it; I’m sure your kids will love it too. It’s a straightforward process, but kids are always amazed when they see their Halloween drawing magically appear when painted over with watercolors.
If your child is not into the scary and spooky Halloween-themed activities, you can skip the ghosts and pirate skulls. You can draw a snowman, snow bunny, or polar bear instead. Just any white animals or objects will work.

Craft supplies:
- White paper
- White crayon or white oil pastel
- White pencil
- Watercolors, we used a watercolor palette
- Glass water
- Watercolor brush
Step-by-step instructions:
Step 1: Gather your craft supplies. Any watercolor paint will work; you can even water down tempera or acrylic paint as watercolor. I recommend using watercolor paper; if you don’t have that, use a little thicker paper.
Step 2: Start with your paper sheet, a white crayon or oil pastel, and a white pencil. If you create a ghost, first sketch a ghost with a white pencil and then color inside the lines with your crayon. Make sure the ghost is fully covered with crayons.
Step 3: Start coloring your white paper with colorful watercolors. I recommend using lighter colors that blend nicely and aren’t too dark.
Step 4: Watch how your white ghost magically appears on the paper; now, you “trapped” your ghost with watercolors!
Step 5: Try out different designs or create Halloween drawings with secret messages for each other.
Step 6: Have lots of fun with this spooky Halloween craft activity!
