How to make colorful pinecone butterflies
Try out these colorful pinecone butterflies. Because of their gorgeous wings, butterflies are a lot of fun to craft; you can design and color them in many beautiful and creative ways. And you can make the wings as easy or detailed as possible. For this craft, we combined one of my favorite craft themes (butterflies) with one of our favorite craft materials: pinecones. So gather some pinecones outside and prepare your craft supplies to create these gorgeous pinecone butterflies.

Craft supplies pinecone butterflies
- Cardboard or cardstock, we love to use the brown color
- Pinecones
- Acorn tops
- Googly eyes
- (Paint)markers or pencils, we used our Posca paint markers
- Scissor
- Glue, preferably hot glue
Step-by-step craft instructions
Step 1: Fold your paper in half; we used brown paper because it looks beautiful with the colorful paint markers. Draw half a butterfly against the folded side of your paper. The size of the wings depends on the size of your pine cones. Cut out the branches, and ensure you have a double paper to end up with a whole butterfly. Repeat this process for the number of butterflies you would like to create.
Step 2: How would you like to decorate the wings? We decorated the wings with Posca paint markers, but you can also choose paint, pencils, colored paper, confetti, stickers, sequins, etc. Be creative; anything colorful can be fun!
Step 3: Glue the googly eyes on top of your acorn tops.
Step 4: Match your pine cones and acorn tops, so each butterfly has two antennas.
Step 5: Glue it all together. We used hot glue to make sure the pinecone stick well on the paper wings. Please make sure to supervise your child when using the hot glue.
