CAN I give you my love?!
Mother’s Day is only one month away. That means it’s time to craft and give our mammas and grandma’s all the love they deserve. And what’s more fun than receiving a handmade gift from your child or grandchild? This pineapple craft planter created from a recycled tin can makes a great gift idea.
Luckily a tin can makes a perfect plant pot, and a tin can also has the ideal pineapple shape. Only the outside can need a transformation. We created three different pineapple prints. A triangle or heart-printed pineapple made from a foam stamp. Or a dotted pineapple print from recycled bubble wrap foil.
Let’s gather the craft supplies and turn your empty cans into a “mama and daughter pineapple plant pot”!

Step-by-step craft instructions for pineapple craft
Preparation:
Step 1: Take your empty tin can; any size is possible. Take off the wrap by soaking your can in water and clean the inside and outside of your tin can.
Step 2: Measure the height of your can. Cut a long stroke that fits all around the white or yellow paper.
Step 3: Use an old newspaper or tablecloth to protect your table. Take a plate and add some paint in yellow and orange shades. You can also add some pink and red shades. I recommend using an old sponge instead of a paintbrush to add color to your stamp.
Step 4: What pineapple print would you like to create? The foam triangle/heart print or the bubble wrap print? Gather the supplies you need for your pineapple print. I recommend watching the craft tutorial video above before crafting.
Bubble wrap pineapple print
Step 1: Take a piece of bubble wrap foil. You can use a big part of bubble wrap foil that covers your entire paper or a small piece and stamp multiple times.
Step 2: Add the paint to your bubble wrap foil with an old sponge. Start with yellow as a base and add darker colors (orange/red/pink). Make sure your bubble wrap foil is nicely painted before you make your print.
Step 3: Make a print by adding the paper on top of your bubble wrap (or the other way around) and push gently on the backside.
Step 4: Make sure your entire paper is covered with the bubble wrap print.
Heart/triangle-shaped pineapple print
Step 1: Take a small wooden block or a piece of cardboard and use this for the base of your stamp.
Step 2: Cut out one heart or triangle shape and trace this shape a couple of times on a piece of foam. Cut out all the shapes and glue them on your wooden block or cardboard. We glued one heart/triangle shape facing upwards and the next facing downwards.
Step 3: Make sure the glue is fully dry before you add the paint.
Step 4: Take an old sponge and cover your stamp with paint. If you use too much color, your print will be messy. I recommend making a test print to ensure you use the right amount of paint.
Step 5: Start with a stamp/print on the top corner of your paper. Push gently on the backside of your stamp to make sure your print is even.
Step 6: Copy this process until your paper is covered in prints.
Turn your tin can into a pineapple planter
Step 1: Now you have your pineapple print. Glue the paper around your tin can.
Step 2: Add a cute face to your pineapple with a black marker. Or you can add some googly eyes. Create round cheeks with pink paint or paper.
Step 3: If you like, add a bow or a flower on top of the pineapple. I gave mama pineapple a blue flower and the daughter a pink bow.
Step 4: Add an excellent plant as a pineapple crown to finish the craft. For the mama pineapple, I used a Bromeliad Catopsis; this plant will get beautiful flowers later on. For the tiny pineapple can, I used a Haworthia. But feel free to use any plant you like; I’m sure many plants make beautiful pineapple crowns. You can also use a real pineapple crown, eat the pineapple and save the top part.
Step 5: Happy Mother’s Day!
Great job creating the pineapple can craft planter. Now let´s try this upcycled Volkswagen van craft activity from a tin can. This fantastic craft comes with a free art printable.
