Hey, are you searching for a fun and simple paper fish craft activity for kids? We’ve got just the thing for you! All you need is some colored paper, a glue stick, and scissors, making it the ideal ocean craft for the summer holidays.
Fish happens to be one of my favorite animals to craft. Do you know why? Because there are over 30,000 species of fish in the world. That’s a lot, right? That’s also why fish are so exciting to craft; they come in various sizes, colors, and patterns, offering endless creative possibilities!
For this fish craft, we’ll be using origami paper in any color you prefer. If you don’t have origami paper, you can cut a square from regular printing paper. Additionally, we’ve created a YouTube video for this paper fish craft to make it even easier for you. I suggest watching the video before you begin crafting. Enjoy!

Step-by-step instructions on paper fish craft
Step 1: Gather the craft supplies above. I highly recommend watching the YouTube craft video above for step-by-step instructions.
Step 2: Pick your favorite color of origami paper or a square piece of printing paper. Size does not matter; the bigger your paper, the easier the craft will be, especially for little hands. We used a paper of 15 by 15 CM.
Step 3: Fold your paper in half to form a triangle; see the picture below.
Step 4: Lay your triangle in front of you with the folded side up and the open side down
Step 5: Take a ruler and pencil and make minor marks, about 1,5 CM, along the sides of your paper
Step 6: Cut strokes upwards with a scissor. See the picture above.
Step 7: Open up your origami paper and fold the strokes to the middle center. This can be tricky, so I recommend watching the YouTube instruction video.
Step 8: Fold the strokes individually (left and right) and glue them in the middle.
Step 9: Leave the tail of your fish open
Step 10: If you like, you can cut out a face for your fish and add a heart-shaped mouth and a googly eye.
