Step-by-step instructions for love bugs
Step 1: Gather the craft supplies you need for this craft
Step 2: Start with your egg carton. Turn over your egg carton and cut the round egg shape bottoms; see the picture above. Paint them in the color you like. Now let the paint dry.
Step 3: Take a piece of white paper, a letter, or an A4 size. And decide where on the form you want your love bugs. Take one of the round egg cartons shapes to measure the exact places.
Step 4: Next, we will create heart-shaped love bug wings. For this, we need a paper roll. Bend the toilet paper roll, so it makes a heart shape. You can put some tape around, so the heart shape stays in place. This makes it easier for your child to stamp.
Step 5: First, make a test stamp on scrap paper. Carefully apply the paint to your paper roll heart. You can apply the paint with a sponge or dep the paper roll in the paint. We used acrylic paint, but you can also use washable paint if you work with small kids.
Step 6: Now, make your stamps. You can use multiple-colored heart-shaped wings or keep them one color. When you’re happy with your heart-shaped wings, lay the paper aside and let the paint dry.
Step 7: With watercolors, we’re going to color the wings. If you don’t have watercolors, don’t worry. If the paint from your stamps is still wet, you can use water to color them. The paint from your stamp will give your wings the watercolor effect.
Step 8: Now, we’re going to make our bugs. Take a pipe cleaner for the antennae. You will need a piece of about 3 inches (8 CM); fold your pipe cleaner in half. Make a small hole in your round egg carton shape and poke/attach the antennae to your love bug.
Step 7: Give your love bug a pair of googly eyes and a smile.
Step 8: Now glue your bug on the white paper, so your love bug has pretty heart-shaped wings. Now repeat the process for all the love bugs.
