How To Make A Dancing Christmas Puppet From Paper
Step 1: Gather the craft supplies listed above. If you want to make it easy on yourself, you can use our craft printable package for the dancing Christmas dog. The printable template comes in color and coloring pages. The kids can decorate their Christmas dog with festive winter accessories and give their dog a personal touch! This fun papar Christmas craft activity is a great way to keep kids entertained this holiday season!
Step 2: Start by making the middle part of your dog. Use a red paper or any other color of your choice. Cut the paper into a 3 x 9 inch (22 x 7.5 cm) rectangle for the sweater. Once you have the rectangle, fold 0.5 inches (1.2 cm) in, then fold 0.5 inches back in the opposite direction. Repeat this process until the entire paper is folded, creating a paper harmonica. See picture B for reference.
Step 3: Draw a sausage dog, showing both the front and back sides. Leave the middle of your dog open. Ensure that the belly is 3 inches (7.5 cm) high to match your harmonica sweater. Refer to picture C above for guidance.
Step 4: Use the start and end points of your harmonica as a reference for attaching your dog’s front (head) to the left side of the harmonica and your dog’s back (tail) to the right side. Use a glue stick so the paper sticks neatly. Please refer to the sample picture C above for guidance.
Step 5: Now, let’s add a fluffy border to your Christmas sweater. We created a white fluffy border from felt fabric. If you don’t have felt, you can also use cotton pads, a kitchen towel, or plain white paper. Use glue to attach the border to the top and bottom of the dog’s sweater. See picture D for guidance.
Step 6: You can create long-hanging ears from a piece of brown paper, to give the dog a playful look (see picture E). And don´t forget to give your dog a cute pom-pom or button nose!
Step 7: To prepare your dog for the Christmas season, you may also want to create a matching Christmas hat for your dog using red paper and felt/cotton. Top it off with a white pom-pom. See picture F for guidance.
Step 9: Now, carefully flip your dog over and attach two sticks to its back. You can use two jumbo popsicle sticks, skewers, sticks from outside, or two strokes of sturdy cardboard. Secure the sticks with tape if necessary. Then flip your dog over and make it dance to some Christmas tunes! See picture H above for reference.
Great job on the dancing Christmas dog! I hope you and the kids enjoyed this craft activity.
