How to Make a Dancing Christmas Dog
Step 1: Gather Your Supplies
Collect all the materials listed above. For an even easier setup, use our dancing Christmas dog craft in both color and black-and-white versions. This printable is also available in our Etsy shop for quick access.
Children can decorate their printable dog with festive winter accessories, or color it to match their own family pet. It’s a creative and entertaining Christmas craft that keeps kids happily busy!
Step 2: Create the Dog’s Sweater
Use a sheet of red paper (or any color you prefer) and cut it into a 3 x 9-inch (7.5 x 22 cm) rectangle. This will become your dog’s sweater.
Fold the paper back and forth in 0.5-inch (1.2 cm) sections to create an accordion or “harmonica” fold. This part gives your dog its bouncy, dancing movement.
Step 3: Draw and Cut the Dog
Draw your sausage dog showing both the front and back sides, leaving the middle open for the accordion section. Ensure the belly is approximately 3 inches (7.5 cm) high to accommodate your folded paper sweater. You can also use the printable as a guide.
Step 4: Attach the Sweater
Glue one end of the accordion fold to the front half of the dog (the head and chest), and the other end to the back half (the tail). Use a glue stick for neat, smooth results.

Step 5: Add a Fluffy Trim
Cut a fluffy white border for your dog’s sweater using white or cream felt fabric. If you don’t have felt, cotton pads, kitchen paper, or white craft paper work perfectly. Glue the trim to the top and bottom edges of the sweater to give it that cozy Christmas look.
Step 6: Give Your Dog Some Character
Cut out long, floppy ears from brown paper to make your dog extra cute. Then add details like eyes, a black pompom nose, or drawn eyelashes for personality.
Step 7: Add a Christmas Hat
Make a small Santa hat using red paper and white felt or cotton for the brim and tip. Glue it to your dog’s head, and add a little white pompom to finish the look.
Step 8: Attach the Sticks
Flip your dog over and attach two jumbo popsicle sticks to the back using glue or tape. These will make your dog “dance.” Once dry, flip your craft over and gently move the sticks up and down to make your pup wiggle and bounce.
Great job! Your dancing Christmas dog craft is ready to spread holiday cheer.
