DIY Colorful Easter Chicks With Straws
Step by step on this Easy Straw Print Chick Painting kids craft.
Below are the steps to make this fun and easy straw printing chick craft.
Step 1: Gather the craft supplies listed above to create these funky Easter chicks. Collect some paint in bright colors that will create fun chicks. We used yellow, orange, and pink, but blue, purple, and green are also great colors. The more colorful, the merrier! We used acrylic paint from Amsterdam Acrylics, but washable kids’ paint works just as well for this project.

Step 2: Let’s create the perfect straw brush for stamping chicks by cutting a straw. You can use either a plastic or a paper straw, as both work equally well. Start by cutting tiny slits at one end of the straw, about half an inch from the tip. Make as many cuts as you can fit in that section. Once you’ve made the cuts, gently fan out the cut ends of the straw. As you can see in pictures A, B, and C. The longer the cuts the bigger your stamp will be.

Step 3: It’s time for some chick painting! Take your paper and determine how many chicks you can fit on it, making sure to leave enough space for their legs as well. Our chicks have a diameter of approximately 5 cm, so keep that in mind as you plan where to stamp them.
To get the hang of it, it’s helpful to practice on a piece of scrap paper first. Dip the cut end of a straw into the paint, then press it onto the paper, overlapping the prints a few times. Refer to pictures D, E, and F for guidance.
let the paint dry before moving on to your next chick.
Step 4: Stamp several Easter chicks in different colors onto your paper, spacing them out, and varying their sizes. Allow the paint to dry.

Step 5: It’s time to create the chick’s beak. We will make the beak from colored paper to give it some dimension. Start by folding the colored paper in half and cutting out a triangle shape. Refer to images G and H for guidance. Once you’ve cut out the beaks, glue them onto your chicks. Feel free to mix and match sizes, colors, and positions to make your chicks more unique and interesting.
Step 6: Add some googly eyes or draw eyes with a black marker or fine liner.
