We love to craft butterflies and paper roll crafts, and this butterfly windsock version is extra fun and the perfect craft for the spring or summer season.
Best of all, this butterfly windsock is relatively easy to make, and you only need a few basic craft supplies. And after creating this beautiful butterfly windsock, the kids can take the butterfly outside or hang it up under a covered front porch so they can see how the streamers spin around in the light breeze.
The beautiful illustrations of Susie Hammer inspire this paper roll butterfly craft. Check out her website for fantastic art prints and greeting cards for kids. We love her designs.

Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Gather the craft supplies you need for this craft. And pick out your butterfly colors; we used pink and yellow as the primary colors and red, blue, and green as secondary colors.
Step 2: Start with your paper roll and cover it with yellow paper.
Step 3: Take the color for the wings; we used pink. Measure the height of your paper roll; that will be the Hight of your wings. Our paper roll was 12 cm, so the wings are 12 CM by 18 CM.
Step 4: We curved the wings’ sides and used a lid to make the perfect rounded shapes. See the picture above.
Step 5: Glue the paper roll in the middle of your wings.
Step 6: Take a big hole puncher and punch (or cut out) 8 circles in different colors. Glue three circles on each wing and save two for the antennas of your butterfly. If you don´t have a hole puncher, trace a lid or use a button instead.
Step 7: Now, create the paper antennas of your butterfly.
Step 8: We glued on two googly eyes, but you can also draw them with a black marker
Step 9: Now it´s time to create the windsock from crêpe paper. We clued all small pieces on a stroke of cardstock so we could easily glue the stroke on the inside of your paper roll. This way, all the streamers are divided evenly, and your butterfly windsock can spin around nicely in the light breeze.
