As you might have noticed, we’re big fans of spoon puppets, especially those big wooden spoons. The best thing about spoon puppets is that the crafting part is just as lovely as the imaginary play fun afterward. Especially this fantastic butterfly sun catcher spoon puppet craft can count on a lot of fun play.
Did you ever use confetti for crafting?
We decorated the butterfly wings with confetti. It’s a fun and easy way to decorate your crafts and make colorful sun catchers, like this butterfly sun catcher. What we like about confetti is its bright, easy use, and cheap craft supply. We love to make our crafts accessible to everyone. Whether you buy a package at the store, have the confetti left over from a party, or cut paper into small bits, you will enjoy making this confetti butterfly craft.

Step-by-step craft instructions
Step 1: Start by painting your spoon pink (or your kid’s favorite color). We used acrylic paint to ensure the paint covered the wooden spoon nicely. We painted some stripes in different colors, but you can use washi tape instead of paint. It’s an easy way to get straight and even lines.
Step 2: Create the wings. We used a transparent plastic sheet for the wings as a base on which we glued the confetti. The transparent sheet is perfect because the light will peek through if you hold your butterfly against a window. I recommend sketching a wing on an A4/letter-size paper first to make sure you have the correct size. We first draw the left wing, cut it out, and used this as a template for our plastic sheet wings. Use the same template for both wings to be the same size and shape. You can also use sticky transparent contact paper for the wings, so you don’t need glue at all (great for younger kids).
Step 3: When you’re happy with the wings, decorate them with confetti. We used a regular glue stick for this.
Step 4: Now that your wings are fully decorated, make a border from cardstock around the wings. For this, you can use the same template you used before. Draw and cut out a frame from about ½ inch (1,5 cm) and glue this on top of your wings.
Step 5: Take your painted wooden spoon and give your butterfly two googly eyes. We used a piece of thin craft wire for the antennas, which we decorated with colorful beads and topped with two pom-poms on the top. If you don’t have an iron wire, use a pipe cleaner, small branches, or rope for the antennas.
Step 6: Take a glue gun and glue the wings and antennas against the back of the wooden spoon.
