Step-by-Step Instructions: Huggable Bear Pop-Up Card

Step 1: Prepare Your Materials

Gather all craft supplies. Print the free bear template if you’re using it, and let kids choose how they want to design their bear.

Step 2: Fold the Card Base

Take an A4 or letter-size sheet of cardstock and place it horizontally.
Fold it in half carefully, pressing down to create a neat crease. This fold will be the center of your card.

Step 3: Draw and Cut the Bear Shape

Draw half of a sitting bear along the folded edge of the paper. The bear should have its legs open so the card can stand when opened.

• Our sample bear is about 18 cm (7.5 inches) tall and wide

• Larger bears are easier for younger kids to color

Cut out the shape while keeping the paper folded. When you open it, you’ll have a perfectly symmetrical bear.

Step 4: Add Bear Details

Sketch or draw the bear’s face, ears, paws, and clothing.

Encourage kids to be creative:

There’s no “right” way, every bear should look different.

Step 5: Color the Bear

Color the bear using crayons, markers, or colored pencils.

Step 6: Decide What the Bear Is Holding

Step 7: Make the Pop-Up Arms

Cut a paper strip about 15 cm long and 1 cm wide.

• Measure about 1.5 cm on each end and fold these sections inward — these are your glue tabs

• Glue the tabs to the inside of the bear’s palms

• Attach the heart, flowers, or object to the center of the strip

When the card opens and closes, the bear’s arms will move forward.

Step 8: Finish the Card

Open and close the card gently to test the pop-up.

Once finished:

• Write a message on the back or inside

• Sign the card

• Give it to someone special
