A great way to involve the whole family in Valentine’s Day festivities is by setting aside some time to make fun Valentine’s Day crafts. Like this colorful toilet paper roll butterfly craft!  This is a super fun craft to create and an adorable Valentine’s gift for a loved one. We added this butterfly craft to our printable shop to make it easier for you and your family. Just download, print, craft, and have fun. You will receive four different butterfly templates, in color and as a color page. So your kids can pick the printable they prefer; this way, it’s easier to involve kids of all ages.

Craft Supplies 

• TP-roll
• Colored cardstock paper
• Pipe cleaners
• Googly eyes
• Glue
• Scissor
• Ruler
• Black marker or fine liner
• Crayons or colored pencils are optional

Step-by-step craft instructions

Step 1: Take your TP-roll and your colored cardstock. We took five different paper colors and cut five strokes, each 2 CM (0.8 inches). Please take a look at picture 1 above. 

Step 2: Glue them around your TP-roll; see picture 2 below. We used a glue stick and secured the back side with a piece of clear tap from top to bottom.

Step 3 Cut out the heart shape wings, two big ones on top and two smaller ones on the bottom; see picture 3.

Step 4: Decorate your wings with colored paper, crayons, pencils, markers, stickers, or glitter. 

Step 5: Now glue the wings on the backside of your butterfly. You can bend the glue stroke slightly, so the wing pops somewhat to the back. Glue the smaller wings on the bottom and glue the big wings on top. 

Step 6: Use two pieces of pipe cleaners as feelers. We glued on the top two heart shapes from felt, but you can use regular paper too. 

Step 7: Glue on two googly eyes and draw with a black sharpie a happy smile on your butterfly!
