Step-by-step pinecone butterflies craft activity
Step-by-Step Pinecone Butterfly Instructions
Step 1: Create the Wings
- Fold your paper in half (we used brown paper because it pairs beautifully with bright paint markers).
- On the folded edge, draw half of a butterfly shape.
- Cut it out so that when unfolded, you’ll have a full set of wings.
- Adjust the size of the wings to match your pinecones. Repeat for however many butterflies you want to make.
Step 2: Decorate the Wings
- This is where creativity shines! We decorated our wings with Posca paint markers, but you can also use paint, crayons, colored paper, stickers, sequins, glitter or even confetti.
- The more colorful, the better!
Step 3: Make the Butterfly Face
- Use acorn sticks for the butterflies’ feelers/antennae.
- Glue googly eyes onto the tops of the acorns. This gives your butterfly personality, see the picture.
- Match each pinecone with an acorn top so your butterfly has a head and antennas.
Step 4: Put It All Together
- Use glue (hot glue works best) to attach the pinecone body to the paper wings.
- Glue the acorn head with googly eyes on top. You can add glue on the backside of your pinecone.
- Let everything dry before displaying your butterfly puppet.
