Step-by-step craft instructions
Step 1: Gather the craft supplies above.
Step 2: Find the perfect box for your DIY vegetable garden, a lid from a shoebox would be a great start. See the step 1 picture above.
Step 3: Print out the printable (optional).
Step 4: Paint your cardboard box green; the top part might need two layers of paint. See the step 2 picture above.
Step 5: Cut grass from green paper (see picture) to decorate the outside of your box/garden. Measure the height of your box first and add about 1 inch so the grass peaks above the cardboard box. Glue the grass around all four sides of your cardboard box. See the step 3 picture above.
Step 6: Mark on top of the box where you want your vegetable puppets to go and carefully make a small cut so the popsicle stick will fit in.
Step 7: Think about what vegetables you want in your garden. You can use the vegetable puppet printable as a craft template or color page for your vegetables, but you can also come up with your vegetables. If you want to create vegetables from felt, we recommend first drawing your vegetables on paper/cardstock so you can cut them and trace them on the felt fabric. See the step 1 picture above.
Step 8: Glue your felt vegetable puppets together and give them a pair of googly eyes. See the picture above.
Step 9: Glue each vegetable on top of a popsicle stick; we used the JUMBO-size popsicle sticks.
Step 10: Yay! Your vegetable garden is done; great job.
Now let´s craft some fruits because apple stamping is fun! Or, if you would like to create another puppet craft, try these cotton pad animal puppets. They are so easy to make and a lot of fun for kids.
